Who is Salih Gülbay?

Psychologist

I graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Psychology in 2017. After gaining various experiences working with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly who live with mental and physical disabilities, and suffer from stress disorder after various traumas, in many different projects around the world, I learned that music and psychology are tools that should be used together. 

Music Therapist

After noticing music’s effects on mental health, I decided to add Music Therapy Specialization to my studies in music and health. After completing my studies in this field at the Catalan Conservatory of Barcelona, I focused my practice on Hip Hop Therapy and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder with at-risk youth. During this period, with the opportunities provided by the Ferrer Salat Music Foundation, Dr. Alex Crooke, Dr.  Elliot Gann from Today's Future Sound project, and J.C. Hall as some of the pioneers of Hip Hop Therapy. After the training I received, I specialized in the use of Hip Hop and Electronic Music in music therapy and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder interventions. After contributing to the recovery of many young people and their fight against their addictions and psychological disorders with the Hip Hop Project IN project we created for immigrant and refugee youth in Barcelona, we introduced this project to young people with a pilot application in  Hatay, Turkey after the earthquake.

Today, I address the psychological and artistic needs of all individuals who want to use music as a tool for healing and expression through online individual therapies, at the same time, I am the director of Project In Creative Arts and run my experimental electronic music project called TransAnt.

My goal?

To introduce you to your own power and your own song by strengthening your connection with music in a creative and sincere process. To give you the expressive power you are looking for with sessions tailored to your needs, and by using the unlimited possibilities of music and technology.

Why Music Therapy

What is this music therapy?

Music therapy is a healthcare profession that uses music in a therapeutic

relationship to meet people's physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs (AMTA, 2018).

Therapeutic Relationship

It is the interaction and communication where the client and the therapist focus on the client's health. Mutual trust and purpose in therapy are based.

Variation

Music Therapy is divided into different branches like psychotherapy and other therapies, almost every therapist's therapy method and process are different from each other. It is recommended that the methods are suitable for the needs of the user and show flexibility according to the process.

Communication and Awareness

Beyond finding one's own voice, the power of communication is that the person expresses himself outward and reflects his feelings and thoughts. In the therapy process, the client increases his / her personal awareness and thus the quality of this communication is increased.

Song in The Therapy Process

Music therapist can provide his clients with safe musical experiences that they can express, represent and reveal the thoughts and feelings left in it. It is extremely important in the therapy model that I take as a basis to put these experiences into a composition, to record and become a work that can support the client for life.

Healthy Expression

One of the most important goals is to give the person the ability to express himself in music therapy and to provide a tool for this expression. However, it expresses itself in an individual who constantly complains, and in the methodology I use, I consider it as the main goal to re-establish the connection with positive values in this process and to give the person a healthy tool of expression. It is as important to learn how to deal with these thoughts as well as expressing thought systems that do not benefit him in his daily life. No matter what kind of songs and music are made, it is very effective in this regard.

Self Value

As a living, living being, a human being, we can forget our value resulting from some life conditions and events, and lose our connection with this value due to the effects that affect our life consciously or unconsciously. In this case, the therapist's job is to re-introduce the resources you have and remind you of this unconditional value. Music mediates to reveal these sources.
